A LITTLE ABOUT US
Hi there, I’m Jon!
Welcome to Earth to Ocean Ceramics. I'm the person behind the wheel here, working away in my slightly messy (but very loved!) garden studio in North Devon.
My brand name is literally my mission statement! Living so close to that spectacular coastline and the rolling, moody moorland, I feel incredibly lucky to be surrounded by this landscape every single day. That dramatic beauty is pretty much the entire inspiration for my pottery.
If you look at my colours, you’ll see I’m obsessed with bringing the outside in. I capture the rugged beauty of North Devon by drawing my palette from earth to ocean: those deep, rich earthy tones, the stormy Atlantic blues, and all the greens in between. It’s my way of transforming a little bit of this wild landscape into objects for your home.
A Sustainable Approach
Just as important as the finished pieces is how I make them. Here at the studio, I strive to tread lightly on the beautiful landscape that inspires me. I use harvested rainwater in my clay making process, supplement my kiln firings with solar power, and always use recycled and recyclable packaging wherever possible. It’s a small commitment, but it’s important to me that my process respects the earth, too.
What I Make
I mainly focus on making stoneware pieces that are meant to be used every day—mugs, bowls, and my favourite, those v-drip coffee sets ☕. There is nothing better than taking a lump of clay and transforming it into something functional and beautiful.
The whole process is just a joy. Whether I’m satisfyingly trimming a form on the wheel (the part you sometimes see in my videos!) or mixing up a new glaze, it’s all about putting care and intention into pieces you’ll reach for every morning.
Thanks so much for having a look around and supporting independent makers. I hope you find something here that makes your home feel a little bit cosier.
